Our yarn
Our yarn is sourced mainly from Britain or in the case of merino stock from a small holding consortium in South America where they don’t practice ‘mulesing’. Helping to support the vital small holding farmers both here in the UK and in South America is a key aim of our business.
We stock natural animal fibres and very rarely use anything containing nylon, its just a personal preference thing. If you’re sock knitter, I might suggest using a yarn that contains Silk, it does a pretty amazing job of replacing Nylon.
New bases are introduced periodically, whilst keeping the old favourites. We are happy to sell our yarns only if we would be happy to buy them ourselves, so you can be assured of quality dyes on luxurious and quality yarn bases.
Below you will find details of our regular yarn stock or you can visit our shop to see the colour ways we currently have in stock
Merino Singles Sock
100% Merino - High Twist Single Ply
366m / 100g
Deliciously Soft, smooth, very warm, good stitch definition
Very versatile - use for sweaters, shawls, hats, scarves, mitts. I’ve used this for colourwork in a number of items, the single ply construction means the fibres stick together, BUT I wouldn’t recommend steeking your work
MerLin Sock
90% Merino 10% Linen (flax)
366m / 100g
Rustic in appearance but again next to skin softness. The tiny white Linen fibres give it the rustic look
Versatile - can be used for shawls, sweaters incl colourwork yokes, hats, scarves etc - a good choice for summer wear.
